The National Institute of Agricultural Technology (INTA) was established in 1956 to promote and intensify the development of agricultural research and extension. The headquarters Basic, applied and adaptive research is carried out in the Research Institutes of the Castelar Centre (about 20 km from the centre of the city of Buenos Aires) and in the Experimental Stations distributed throughout the country. Due to the great extension of the territory of Argentina and the diversity of its climates, soils and social conditions, INTA is involved in research and extension of different disciplines and products, from cereals and oil headquarters and livestock or agricultural products. Strategic research is also carried out on water and climatic conditions, soils, genetic resources, biotechnology, plant physiology, pathology, entomology, as well as agro-industry, veterinary medicine. INTA investigates and produces information and technologies applied to processes and products, which are then sent to producers. It works, for example, in the genetic improvement and development of specific properties of various cereals, fruits, flowers, forest trees and vegetables, as well as in the management of crops and native forests. Another important field is the sanity of the products; Control of pests, weeds and diseases. Study and research the harvest, handling, packaging, distribution and marketing of fruits and vegetables, as well as the handling and processing of meat and dairy products. The institute also observes the market behaviour of internal and external consumption, as well as the economic impact of the different technologies applied.
